DEPRESSION

Depression is a change in mood that is characterised by a significant lowering of mood and a loss of interest or pleasure in the activities that you would usually enjoy. It is a common disorder and can be experienced by people of all ages. It can be triggered by major life changes or stress but occasionally will come on without warning. 


You may notice:

·         Low mood – sadness, numbness, detachment
·         Loss of interest or pleasure in normal activities
·         Irritability
·         Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
·         Loss of hope for the future
·         Feelings of helplessness
·         Problems with concentration and memory
·         Disturbed sleep – difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, sleeping too much
·         Changes in appetite – increase or decrease
·         Reduced energy
·         Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
